As we continued to sift and not find anything our guide disappeared further down the ditch and we thought he was scouting new locations since we were not finding anything. NOPE, he was on his phone and smoking a cigarette which continued for most of the tour. After over an hour and only finding several very small teeth, he suggested we move further down and crossed over a dam of garbage and tree limbs to an area of stagnant water. After another half hour and finding only a few more teeth and LOTS of glass, I called it quits after barely 2 hours!

Not sure why the bottom review had such a bad experience, our family with 2 daughters 10 and 13 had the best time! The excitement that we had over and over again when we found fossil after fossil was so rewarding. Another family was in our group as well, their son was 5 and he had a blast! Sure, shoveling for him was not easy and his parents did it for him but he spotted at least 2 handfuls of keepers. We are so grateful that we had a chance to spend the afternoon with Denise. He was very knowledgeable and I'm sure he's been fossil hunting with many people but he was still very kind to us and our children and you could tell he was genuinely interested in our finds. P.S. if you pay someone to take you to a creek or stream have enough common sense to expect debri washed in such a glass/trash.

I immediately contacted the owner and after several emails back and forth, he only agreed to refund $60 for the child. There were a multitude of excuses of why we did not go to the site agreed upon(private property) and he refused to give a full refund as we “did hunt and find fossils.” He even went so far as to say the videos are edited after hours and hours of finding nothing-very disappointing and very unprofessional.

Don’t waste your money going to a dirty ditch behind a school full of glass!!!!

When we parked at a public school and walked through tall grass behind the school to a ditch, I was concerned but wanted to give the benefit of the doubt. We were NOT on private property and not in a creek. We were in a water run off ditch behind a public school full of trash and broken glass. I tried not to let me dismay show as I had an excited 5 year old who wanted to find some shark teeth, but when we started digging and there was so much glass, we had to stop the 5 year old from putting his hand in the sifter to move the gravel around. We asked our guide if he had a garbage bag or something to put all of the glass in and his reply was to just throw it on to the bank. I have found pieces of glass in the Peace River but it is really few and far between. In every scoop in this ditch, there were at least 10 shards of glass if not more. Couple that with the dirty run off water and I was now more worried about contracting a disease than finding shark teeth!!

$60 to dig in a dry ditch with broken beer bottles and a guide that smoked the whole time. We didn't even stay for the entire excursion. My 5 year old couldn't even dig because of the glass. We were told we were going on private property however it was a path behind a school in between a housing development. Don't pay the money you can walk there for free.

I have fossil hunted all over the state of Florida and hunt the Peace River regularly. When I first got started, I booked several tours on the Peace River just to get a lay of the land and learn more about what I was hunting. I was planning a vacation to SC and didn’t have a lot of time so I decided to book a tour to save time in scouting locations. Never did I imagine we would end up in a ditch full of glass!

$120 for 15 small teeth that could have been found walking on the beach is not my idea of fossil hunting. These are now the most expensive teeth in my 3000+ collection! If I can save at least 10 people from wasting their money, my loss will be worth it. I have attached his last email and a picture of the 15 teeth. Don’t waste your money thinking you are going on the Edisto or a creek tributary, you cannot sift in those areas and don’t fall for the bait and switch thinking you are going on private property, because you will wind up in a ditch full of glass!

I asked Shawn Damon all kinds of questions prior to booking. We were told we had to pay full price for a child as we would be hunting on private property. We decided to book only the 3 hour tour since we had a small child. For two adults and a child, we paid $180 total. We met our guide and followed him to the site.
